It was inevitable that The Bollweevils would end up working with Red Scare. The Midwest veterans formed in 1989 and seemed to be the bridge between the first wave of Chicago punk bands like Naked Raygun and The Effigies, and more modern acts like Alkaline Trio and Rise Against. Their brand of singalong hardcore is a little boozy and a little melodic—just the way they like it in the Windy City. These guys are loaded with cred, but they chose us to deliver this new single from “Essential,” their forthcoming LP. “Liniment And Tonic” is an ode to singer Daryl Wilson’s relentless work as an ER doctor and their first new song in six years. As an added bonus, they surprised us with a classic B-side from our catalog!

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
